Wow good for you! I've been learning with video also, but I can't stand Peppa pig!! 🤣😅 I have found some new Spanish series on Netflix though through it. Basically just immersing yourself in the language as much as possible sounds like the moral of this story. Thank you for sharing your tips with us, Emanuela.
This is so impressive, Manu!!! And the Peppa pig reference made me chuckle :) when I started reading the article, I was exactly wondering about the Peppa pig picture! Also clapped and followed you on Medium. Keep it up!
Peppa isn’t exactly a glamorous cultural reference 😅, but it perfectly captures how learning a new language humbles us and pushes us to find creative, inventive solutions!
I feel like language learning is like a strange quilt. No two people learn it the same way, everyone gets different vocabulary depending on where they apply the language.
Still, I think it always feels like a muscle. You can get it back, but it takes some power lifting…I’ve let French, Russian and that little bit of Italian go in favor of training only in Dutch.
This is so impressive, Emanuela! I am learning French right now (B2) and I'm in awe of going from 0 to C1 in a year. Also, we are also a Peppa Pig in French family -- it seems to be the show of choice for language learners. I do wish Peppa was a bit nicer though haha

It is exactly this, and I would add: do things you love in the new language and enjoy the journey!
This is so impressive. And inspiring.
Thank you Vivian! When I face a professional challenge I remind myself this period and I know I have the resources somewhere!
Hello Emanuela, I saw you share some interesting posts, and one of my articles is relevant in a way.
I wanted to say hello and introduce myself, I’ve not been on Substack long.

Completely agree! The way we learn is so personal.
I had a former colleague who managed to learn a language just by reading the dictionary every night before going to sleep!
I hope that my German muscle will come back without extreme intense work out 😅
How I learn is one of those things I wish someone had taught me—unfortunately, I had to wait for experience!
I fully agree especially about your decision to study in Frankfurt without having the problem that during the break you would switch to french.
The idea of your boss to do multilingual meetings is brilliant!
I hope that this inclusive practice will inspire others 🙏

Good luck with your French! I’ll be writing a piece soon about what worked for me years ago when I was learning French (without Peppa!)
