Thank you for this. I also wrote a post recently about embracing the (messy!) process of learning Dutch, so your reading list has showed up in my scroll at the right time :).
Thanks so much for the shout out and I'm delighted we'll get to read your story of how you've learned your language in November. Thanks for sharing the book recommendations as well! I'll definitely add them to my list of books I'd like to read. 😅
I think it already did. There are earbuds that offer the feature to speak and it translates in real time. Not a bad thing though and it wouldn't put me off from learning another language.
I think if you never had it in you, nothing will change and vice versa.
If technological progress can help people who have difficulties learning or who don’t have the opportunity to do so, that’s a good thing. But as you said, for those of us who have a natural pleasure in learning, I hope we can keep that.
Hi Rachel, happy that you have found this post in this phase of language learning. Please feel free to drop here the link to your post, I will be glad to read it!

Will be checking out those other Substacks!
Oh how wonderful—I know that feeling of mental math to speak between two languages well!
Is that the application you worked on in the Haagse Bieb!?
I would like to know more about the bilingual Gillian that is growing on you! Yes, this app was one of the many companions I had at the bieb!
Well, there’s an essay coming soon that will definitely pique your interest!
I look forward 🤗
Ciao Emanuela, thanks a lot for mentioning my newsletter - so happy that you found out about Alexakis through it and went on to read "Foreign Words"!
Grazie a te Gaia !

It would be wonderful! Still, I hope that AI will not spoil our possibility of learning languages!

If I could wish fir a superpower, it would be to understand and speak any language. The possibilities of connecting with others would be endless.
